In keinem anderen Land Europas gibt es so viele städtische Bahnen wie in Deutschland. In diesem Band stellen wir Ihnen nicht nur die vier klassischen U-Bahnen vor, sondern auch alles andere, was teilweise nach ‚Metro‘ aussieht, also von der ältesten U-Bahn in Berlin über die Stadtbahnen im Ruhrgebiet und S-Bahnen mit Tunnelstrecken bis hin zur modernen unterirdischen Straßenbahnhaltestelle in Rostock. Einen kurzen Blick werfen wir auch auf die einst geplanten U-Bahnen in Bremen oder Ludwigshafen/Mannheim.

Germany has more urban rail networks than any other country in Europe. This book introduces you to all the conventional underground railways, but also to many hybrid systems that features certain metro characteristics. We will travel from Germany's oldest U-Bahn, that of Berlin, to the modern underground tram station in Rostock, passing through all the light rail and S-Bahn systems with underground stations. In a special section we look back at the frustrated U-Bahn projects in Bremen and Ludwigshafen/Mannheim.
